My husband, Brian, and I discovered San Leandro in 1989 and made our first home in Estudillo Estates, where we raised our two sons, Zachary and Corey, with the loving support of my mother Doreen. During that time, we helped Brian’s parents move from Los Angeles to Bay-O-Vista so we could care for them. After they passed in 2008, we chose to make Bay-O-Vista our home – and we’ve been here ever since.

We feel incredibly fortunate to live in a neighborhood filled with genuinely kind, caring people. San Leandro truly is a hidden gem in the East Bay, with strong community resources, diverse local businesses and restaurants, and vibrant, welcoming population. It’s a wonderful place to raise a family.

Our sons are now grown and on their own, and my dear mother – who loved living in Bay-O-Vista and being part of BOVIA – passed away at age 99 in 2026. The extraordinary outpouring of love and condolences we received from neighbors was a beautiful testament to the strength and compassion of this community.

Being part of BOVIA – bringing neighbors together, supporting safety efforts, and building lasting relationships – has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who helps make our community so special, and I hope every resident will join BOVIA so we can continue supporting one another in everyday moments through events, activities and clubs, and being prepared if we ever have to face disaster together.
