Volunteers are needed to help sort and box the food donations once they are delivered to the Abrams Court Post Office.  Any time you can spare will help!  To sign-up, email garry.offenberg33@gmail.com.

BOVIA BOOK CLUB:  TUESDAY, MAY 19TH @ 6:00 p.m. (via Zoom – link will be emailed to interested parties). The book we are reading is “The Second Life of Mirielle West” by Amanda Skenado.  A brief summary of the book is as follows:

The novel is set in the 1920s at the Louisiana Leper Home in Carville, a quarantined community for leprosy patients that operated from 1894 into the 1970s.  The story contrasts the life of the glamorous Hollywood socialite, Mirielle West, which is upended when she is diagnosed with leprosy and must face the harsh realities of forced isolation, medical experimentation, and social stigma faced by patients at Carville.  The author, Amanda Skenandore, draws on her experience as a registered nurse to provide authentic medical and historical details.

As a heads up, the next book that we will be reading afterwards is “The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans.  It is popular, so we recommend reserving it now.  In summary, the book is about:

Published in April 2025, The Correspondent is Virginia Evans’s first fiction novel, told in an epistolary format through letters, emails, and unsent pages. The story centers on Sybil Van Antwerp, a retired lawyer in her 70s, who reflects on her life, relationships, and regrets while maintaining correspondence with friends, family, and authors.

Our Book Club has a wonderful group of people with different perspectives and insights. Our discussions are diverse and interesting, even if you haven’t read the book!  You are welcome to join us!  Please email Kat at katwellman54@gmail.com for more information and the zoom link.

We also plan Garden Tours in Bay-O-Vista. It is a wonderful way to meet people in our community who have a wealth of knowledge and love to garden. Novices are more than welcome!  Please email Kat at  katwellman54@gmail.com to join and get the zoom link!

BOVIA BREAKFAST CLUBFRIDAY, MAY 29TH @ 10:30 a.m. at Elios – 260 Floresta Ave., San Leandro.  Come join the wonderful group of our neighbors for great conversation and a non-hosted delicious breakfast.
